Transistorized
My one turn as an extra. I wandered onto a film set at the Biltmore Hotel while living in Providence, RI. I didn’t know what the movie was about, nor what scene was being filmed. Someone directed me to a makeshift dressing room where I was told to put on an ill-fitting suit. I was then ushered into the hotel bar that had been transformed into a film set and instructed to sit at the bar and pretend-drink. I think I also for-real-smoked. Midway through the shoot we were told by the director we were talking too loud. That’s when we started pretend-talking. My scene, in all it’s glory, takes place around the 47:00 minute mark and dramatizes a meeting between John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley that took place immediately following their Nobel Prize ceremony. This meeting was notable given their widely-reported frenemy status. They seemed to be getting along just fine from my vantage point at the bar. Some screen caps:
